Counseling & Psychotherapy

Amy Armstrong, MS, LPC, NCC

Each person we meet has a unique journey. Our first step together in your counseling is an intake where one of us gathers a bit more information from you about your personal experience, family history, and your goals for therapy. Most importantly: we want to know what success in therapy will look like for you! How will you know when you have gotten what you want out of this process?

Most of our clients are in the early years of their career paths (either the first career post-college or going through a career transition.) Many of you are still trying to demystify what it means to be out there “adulting.”

A lot of people we work with have been trying to cope with anxiety for most of their lives. Maybe you have experienced a history of panic attacks in public places like restaurants. Maybe you never experience panic attacks, but have difficulty relaxing or dread social situations even though you want to connect with people.

Maybe you recently moved to Denver and they are experiencing depression or just a general lack of connection in this new city.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an approach to psychotherapy that can be extremely helpful in reducing and eliminating common symptoms of trauma.

Just because EMDR is often associated with trauma does not mean that you need to be the survivor of childhood abuse or a violent crime for it to help you.

I have effectively used EMDR to treat panic attacks, anxiety, and depression.

This service is provided by Amy Armstrong and she has limited availability for new clients seeking EMDR. Rates: $140/hr and reimbursable through insurance. I am in-network with UnitedHealthCare, Cigna, Anthem BC/BS, MINES and Associates, Kaiser Permanente (via Beacon), and Beacon Health Options.

Career Coaching

Some people know almost from birth what they want to do with the rest of their life. For the rest of us, it’s not necessarily that easy. Maybe you thought you had your career figured out, but things changed in your industry? Maybe you’ve advanced as far as you can at your current job and don’t know where to go next? Maybe you feel like you have looked through every major in your college catalog and still have no idea what sparks a passion in you?

We will develop a plan for you and I will guide you through assessments like the Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, SkillScan, and other exercises to help you understand what you need to have joy in your work and balance in your life.

Career assessment (often referred to as aptitude testing) is available to clients as a separate service or as part of their treatment plan for career counseling or career coaching. These assessments can be helpful to anyone who is gathering information on career options including recent college graduates seeking direction as well as high school students.

Billed at $140/hr. Assessments are approximately $100 in additional fees. Insurance does not cover Career Coaching.

Like any other coaching relationship, if you choose this service, Amy will ask you to sign a coaching agreement and send her a list of specific goals. You can email her a few days in advance with your goals after the agreement is signed. A credit card is required to book these sessions and you will be charged a $125 fee that is not refundable if your appointment is scheduled within the next 24-hours.

I provide supervision to practicum students in graduate programs as well as professionals in Colorado with an LPCC working toward and LPC.

I am an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and volunteer on committees for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

Please call for availability.

See this page for detailed information about application and eligibility requirements for practicum.

Coaching

Coaching is a terrific option if you are not coping with a mental health issue or if you are being treated by another professional for that, and would like to achieve a specific goal within a certain amount of time. For example, if you would like to write a novel, but you keep getting stuck, I can help you develop a schedule as well as reasonable/measurable goals to finally get that manuscript done!

Career coaching can be particularly helpful if you need a push to refine a specific skill that is holding you back in moving forward at work.

Coaching (personal or career) is billed at $140 per hour with a specific number of sessions agreed upon in an agreement within a certain time period. The sessions and time-frame will be established in an agreement that we both sign before coaching begins.

Pricing and Payment

All of us are committed to making mental health services accessible to as many people as possible. Depending on the provider’s experience and licensure level, cash rates generally range from $40-$140.

We can bill Aetna, Cigna and Colorado Medicaid for all of our providers now. Hopefully, we will add more payers in the future.

If you have Cigna, or go through insurance with a provider who is paneled with another payer, be sure to check your deductible. If you have one, most policies require that you pay the contracted rate with our practice until that deductible is met. It is illegal for us to waive a deductible or reduce the rate and bill the insurance for the contracted rate.

All balances can be paid with credit cards including FSA and HSA cards.
